Disclaimer
All hoods and hood accessories offered by Duraflex are designed as aftermarket accessories intended for off-road and show use only. Duraflex assumes no responsibility for any damage or injury resulting from the use of these products. Duraflex hoods are often lighter than stock hoods and may feature vented designs, which can create additional aerodynamic lift at high speeds. Therefore, hood pins or AeroCatch latches are necessary to ensure safety, as standard hood latches may not provide sufficient security.
Due to the nature of fiberglass and the manufacturing processes involved, Duraflex hoods are not direct bolt-on parts. They often require significant preparation, including sanding, cutting, shaving, and filling gaps. In some areas, additional fiberglass reinforcement may be needed. Drilling holes for mounting, making custom fitting adjustments, and modifications, such as drilling holes for windshield washer nozzles and tubing using a rotary tool, may also be necessary. It's important to note that not all original components, like washer nozzles and tubing, may be transferable to the Duraflex hood, depending on its design; therefore, modifications or replacements may be required.
Hood Latch Adjustments
Duraflex hoods typically require repositioning the hood latch to ensure proper alignment and closure. This involves carefully adjusting the latch and making small tweaks to move it up or down, or forward and back, until the striker catches securely. Because fiberglass hoods may have slight variations or warping, additional fitting—such as enlarging mounting holes or using shims—might be necessary for proper alignment. Adjustments to or removal of hood bump stops may also be required.
Hood Accessories: Scoops and Other Modifications
Duraflex offers various hood accessories, including scoops, which can enhance your vehicle's performance and appearance. Installing a hood scoop typically requires drilling holes in the hood for mounting, using bolts or adhesive depending on the scoop's style. When adding hood scoops to fiberglass hoods, it may be necessary to add fiberglass reinforcement around the mounting area to ensure the scoop is securely fastened and properly aligned. Careful measurement and fitting are essential to prevent leaks and maintain the hood's structural integrity.
For optimal results, Duraflex strongly recommends professional installation by a custom shop experienced in handling fiberglass components and hood accessories, as traditional auto repair shops may lack the necessary expertise for these modifications.
